About the Opportunity

We're partnering with Hunter Water to appoint a Group Manager - Commercial who will lead and execute commercial strategies that drive value for money while aligning with corporate objectives, risk appetite, and market opportunities.

The successful candidate will bring a wealth of knowledge spanning across projects, contracts and acquisitions and will be harnessing that knowledge to guide the organisation into the next series of high-value, critical infrastructure projects and initiatives.

What you'll be doing

You'll lead the design and delivery of Hunter Water's commercial strategies, ensuring value, compliance, and strong stakeholder outcomes.

* Drive fit-for-purpose commercial strategies and contract models
* Advise leadership and the Board on risks and opportunities
* Ensure compliance with laws, policies and risk frameworks
* Analyse markets to guide decisions and identify trends
* Build strong supplier and stakeholder relationships
* Resolve contract issues with a collaborative approach
* Develop governance frameworks and track commercial KPIs
* Lead, mentor and inspire a high-performing commercial team

About You

You will have demonstrable experience in projects, contract assurance & management and be well versed in implementing controls, measures and milestones to ensure great value for money, reliability and adequate risk management controls are in place.

Essential Requirements

* Tertiary qualifications in Business, Law or Project Management
* Highly developed leadership skills with the ability to foster collaboration, not only within the commercial & finance teams but across the organisation
* A defined customer-centric approach combined with commercial acumen and the capacity to consider the optics on decisions and how they could positively or negatively impact the organisation
* A strategic-minded problem solver with the ability to respectfully challenge internal and external stakeholders when necessary
* Strong experience negotiating partnerships, alliances, suppliers & contracts
* Proven experience in strategic sourcing across diverse categories
* The ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities without losing momentum
* The ability to work in a highly regulated environment with a high level of probity & oversight

Highly Regarded

In addition to the essential requirements and profile, you would stand out from the rest if you had:

* Post-graduate qualifications in commercial law, supply-chain or business
* Solid exposure with end-to-end project management
* Experience leading, coaching and mentoring teams
* Experience designing and implementing strategic change within the organisation, and were adept at taking people on the journey while doing so
* Had exposure to digital space (software rollout/implementation) and the tendering and contract process surrounding this
* Knowledge of water industry related legislation, compliance and practices OR exposure government or other utility sectors
