Mental Health Nurse Consultant - Make a Real Difference in Patient Recovery

Join our Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit at Noarlunga Hospital as an RN03 Nurse Consultant, where you will provide clinical leadership and specialist care to patients on their recovery journey. This part-time contract position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, guiding evidence-based rehabilitation programs. About the role:

The Nurse Consultant, Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit (MHRU), works in collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager and Senior Allied Health Professionals to design, deliver, coordinate and evaluate mental health rehabilitation services in partnership with consumers and their carers. The Nurse Consultant provides clinical nursing expertise for consumers living with complex mental health condition who require inpatient Mental Health Rehabilitation to promote recovery and independence. In doing so, providing clinical leadership, education and mentorship to the nursing team at the MHRU. The incumbent will be an expert within their area and stream of practice and have a significant degree of autonomy and decision making.

Employees in this role accept accountability for their nursing/midwifery practice, the outcomes of nursing/midwifery practices for the specific patient/client group, the professional advice given, delegations of care made and for addressing inconsistencies between practice and policy.

Duties for the role will include:

* Integrate contemporary information and evidence with personal experience to support the decision making, innovative thinking and objective analysis that is expected at this level eg Expert clinical knowledge underpins and informs their ability to support, lead and/or provide expert clinical care to improve and optimise nursing/midwifery care,
* Promoting compassionate relationship centred care and/or individual case management to consumers that embraces personal preferences and human rights "nothing about us without us",
* Promoting and building knowledge of the consumer as individuals and as a network of relationships which provide human connection,
* Promoting and participating in conversation based on mutual respect and promoting a restorative justice culture,
* Use available information systems: to inform decision making, to implement and co-ordinate processes for quality improvement, to monitor and analyse incidents and accidents, to ensure quality and safety is not compromised, to evaluate outcomes and convey information to staff,
* Contribute specific mental health rehabilitation nursing expertise to nursing/midwifery practice through clinical protocol and standards development

About you:

* Registered as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds a current practicing certificate. Must be enrolled in an approved mental health course or hold a qualification in mental health practice,
* Effective leadership skills including highly developed skills in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills,
* Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team,
* Registered Nurse and or Midwife with at least 3 years post registration experience,
* Experience in working in the Mental Health Rehabilitation setting and/or with consumers with complex mental health care needs in accordance with the relevant standards,
* Experience in the supervision of students, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses and or midwives
