We operate five mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, with additional joint ventures and exploration projects in North West Queensland and Western Australia.Job DescriptionWe seek a Senior Mechanical Engineer (MEM) to join the maintenance leadership team at Dawson Mine on a full-time, permanent basis.
Reporting to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager, you will oversee Maintenance & Engineering Management (MEM) responsibilities for the open-cut coal mine.
You will develop and optimise maintenance strategies, specifications, and standards to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective equipment performance.Key AccountabilitiesLead the development and deployment of strategic mechanical engineering initiatives aligned with the Engineering and Maintenance Strategy.Act as the site's Statutory Mechanical Engineer, ensuring compliance with SHMS obligations, standards, and legislation.Represent the mechanical discipline in strategic planning, including Life of Mine planning, BARA reviews, and risk assessments.Approve mechanical inputs into LOM equipment strategies, asset capability assessments, and risk-based maintenance plans.Provide leadership for mechanical contributions to capital planning and asset forecasts.Approve mechanical specifications and ensure designs meet Dawson and legislative standards.Lead mechanical FMECA reviews and oversee lifecycle management of mechanical equipment strategies.Govern the implementation of maintenance procedures, training, and rebuild standards.Ensure statutory oversight during commissioning, meeting design, safety, and operational criteria.Support maintenance teams through oversight of strategy adherence and defect management.Provide technical governance for major shutdown scopes and statutory inspections.Review and govern contracts involving mechanical scope.Lead the mechanical team's input into performance reporting, RCA reviews, and KPI tracking.Oversee decommissioning processes and develop care and maintenance strategies.QualificationsTo succeed, you will have:Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or related fields (e.g., Master of Engineering Management).Practicing Certificate for Mechanical Engineering Manager (MEM) or working towards it.Supervisor & Risk Facilitator competencies (S1, 2, 3 & G2, G3).RPEQ accreditation in Mechanical Engineering (desirable).iCam Facilitator (desirable).Experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA).Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, OEMs (CAT & Komatsu), and heavy machinery.Leadership experience in a progressive role.Project management experience at a mine site (coal preferred), including leading projects independently.Experience with SAP or similar ERP (desirable).Excellent problem-solving skills and proactive approach.Commitment to safety regulations and creating a safe work environment.Additional InformationPermanent, full-time role at Dawson Mine, Moura QLD.Monday to Friday, with a 9-day fortnight option.Competitive salary + 12% superannuation.Residential, FIFO (company-funded), and DIDO options.Subsidised accommodation and camp options.Company benefits.What We OfferEnjoy a competitive salary, benefits, flexible work arrangements, and opportunities for learning and growth, including technical training and leadership programs.
