About The Role 
Swinburne University of Technology is offering a fully funded 3-year PhD scholarship in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, where you’ll be part of a leading research team tackling one of today’s most important challenges: creating innovative, sustainable, and high-performance materials for tomorrow’s infrastructure. You’ll work alongside world-class academics and industry experts as part of the ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub to: 
- Reimagine waste materials as valuable resources 
- Design and test sustainable structural elements 
- Help translate advanced lab discoveries into real, commercial-scale applications

About You 
We’re seeking a motivated and curious researcher who has: 
- Hands-on experience with experimental testing of materials 
- Skills in material preparation, fabrication, and prototyping 
- Experience in 3D modelling (CAD) and computer simulation 
- Strong knowledge of mechanics of materials (stress, strain, deformation) 
- Ability to write clear technical reports and communicate ideas effectively 
- A cooperative mindset, with the enthusiasm to work in a supportive team environment 
Qualifications 
Masters degree or Bachelor (Honours) degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Science. 
What We Offer 
- Full-time, fixed-term (3 years) position at our Hawthorn campus 
- Annual Stipend: AUD $34,700 per year with indexation 
- Hybrid work options and flexible working arrangements
