We built the Royal Australian Navy's Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats' service lives.
ASC will also provide sustainment support for visiting US and UK submarines and has been selected as the Australian Government's Sovereign Submarine Partner to sustain and jointly build conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in Australia – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in the country's history.
About the Opportunity
ASC is seeking Mechanical Designers / Drafters across all seniority levels to join our Platform Design team.
In these roles you will apply your mechanical expertise to deliver high-quality design and drafting solutions to support the integration of new and updated designs across a wide range of submarine systems.
Candidates with a relevant Trade background are strongly encouraged to apply, as these roles present a great pathway into engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver Mechanical, Structural, and Piping System design and drafting tasks to agreed program commitments.
Ensure engineering outputs comply with ASC processes and industry standards.
Produce quality drawing outputs consistent with established industry standards.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated engineering solutions.
Provide regular task updates, escalates blockages and ensures alignment with project priorities and objectives.
Seek better ways of working that drive improvement in relation to program cost, schedule and quality.
About you
Experience as a Mechanical Designer/Drafter supporting the delivery of engineering solutions.
Trade experience/qualification is highly regarded.
Experience in Mechanical design, including preparation of production level drawings and other documentation.
Experience in AutoCAD to produce 3D models and 2D drawings is favourable (training provided).
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Adaptability to manage multiple design activities concurrently whilst still delivering work on time and within budget.
Knowledge of configuration systems and the role of configuration management in the design process.
A tertiary qualification (e.g., Diploma/Advanced Diploma) in a related Engineering discipline is desirable.
This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and the ability to access protected US defence technology.
Your eligibility for this role is dependent on obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
