About the role

The Head of Monitoring, Controls & Governance (M,C&G) at Cbus leads the Fund Services MCG function, supporting key business units including Finance, Investments, Tax and Data. The role will report to the CFO and form part of the Fund Services Leadership Team.

The role is responsible for overseeing governance and reporting cycles across business units, risk committees, and the Board, while continuously strengthening the control environment and a robust risk culture.

It also supports the Chief Financial Officer in fulfilling responsibilities under the Financial Accountability Regime (FAR), particularly in risk monitoring, compliance, and reporting.

This is a permanent role based in Melbourne.

Key Accountabilities

* Support risk assessments (existing, emerging, change risks) and maintain GRC risk register
* Ensure proper risk coverage, ownership, mapping, ratings, and treatment plans
* Assist with residual risk assessments (rationale, acceptance, triggers, evidence)
* Develop remediation actions from risks, incidents, audits, and testing
* Ensure business operates within risk appetite and escape breaches
* Monitor action plans and policy compliance
* Manage out-of-tolerance risks end-to-end (plans, escalation, tracking to closure)

Risk & compliance reporting

* Prepare clear, insightful reports for governance forums and Board Committees
* Maintain a single, accurate view of risks, controls, incidents, and actions in GRC
* Track and report status of remediation actions (owners, deadlines, dependencies)

Controls management

* Monitor control effectiveness, testing results, and identify trends
* Partner with risk owners to improve control design and effectiveness
* Identify control gaps, elevate issues, and track remediation

Compliance obligations management

* Support design and implementation of controls to meet regulatory obligations
* Address gaps with remediation plans and track to completion

Incident & breach management

* Lead triage of major incidents/breaches and define remediation approach
* Coordinate closure (timelines, dependencies, evidence) and root cause analysis
* Ensure fixes are effective and lessons are embedded across the business

Issue management

* Manage audit findings and systemic issues through to closure
* Ensure proper prioritisation, ownership, and validation of fixes
* Address root causes of recurring issues through redesign and monitoring
* Strengthen governance and ensure adequate team capability
* Lead and develop the team (performance, prioritisation, coverage)
* Build strong cross-functional partnerships (business, risk, regulatory, providers)
* Promote strong risk culture, accountability, and risk awareness across the organisation

What we're looking for

* Risk & controls expertise: Experience in risk ownership, control management, and remediation in regulated financial services (especially superannuation) with a focus on financial control and investments.
* Control uplift: Ability to improve control design, processes, evidence standards, and testing coverage
* Compliance knowledge: Strong understanding of risk, regulatory obligations, and third-party/vendor requirements (e.g. CPS 230)
* GRC capability: Experience using GRC systems to track risks, controls, incidents, and actions with clear evidence
* Stakeholder management: Proven ability to identify, elevate, and manage risks collaboratively with stakeholders and regulators
