The Collaborative and Autonomous Systems Project Office (CASPO) is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager with prior financial management experience to lead the commercial function within the project office.
In this role, you will be accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex to very complex strategic procurement and contracting work within an integrated workforce. As the Commercial Manager, you will lead a small team to deliver successful outcomes while mitigating risk.
You will provide expert advice and guidance on procurement, contracting, and probity, maintaining effective communication with stakeholders at all levels, and will provide financial management advice related to CASPO contract management as required.
Key duties include (but are not limited to):
1. Providing advice and support on procurement planning, tendering, contract formation, and associated commercial documentation.
2. Collaborating with stakeholders, including CASPO project teams, to develop and lead strategies for complex contracting issues.
3. Applying legal and commercial risk principles and providing decision support to CASPO leadership.
4. Leading contract management activities, including performance management frameworks and various contract pricing models.
5. Implementing and managing FMS/co-operative program arrangements as required by the CASPO futures project team and international engagement.
6. Managing and leading a team, including setting performance standards, managing performance, delegating responsibilities, and developing team members.

The Commercial Manager is part of the CASPO Executive team, responsible for leading the project office to achieve its objectives.
You will focus on the commercial function but also collaborate with colleagues in project management, engineering, test & operations, and corporate operations. Our team supports each other to deliver outcomes and share knowledge, working on cutting-edge developmental technology.
This role offers exposure to new Collaborative Combat Aircraft capabilities and the integration of these technologies into the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).
Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate can work under pressure, has experience in the Defence project environment, and possesses a strong background in government procurement and contracting. Key attributes include excellent communication, stakeholder management, attention to detail, people management, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and managing complex procurement and probity issues.
Experience in drafting, reviewing, and administering contracts, mitigating risks, and ensuring legal and regulatory compliance is essential. A good understanding of public sector procurement and financial processes is highly desirable. Relevant tertiary qualifications or practical experience in law, business, or procurement, especially within Defence, are advantageous.
