We're working with a residential mortgage lender based in Brisbane to appoint a Head of Finance. This is a senior leadership role sitting directly beneath the CFO, with ownership of the finance function and a team underneath you.
The business A well-established residential lending organisation with a strong presence in the Australian mortgage market. The finance team plays a central role in the business - this is not a back-office function. You'll be a key voice in commercial decision-making alongside the CFO and broader leadership team.
The role Reporting to the CFO, you'll lead the day-to-day operations of the finance function while acting as a genuine business partner across the organisation. Your responsibilities will span:
Leading, managing, and developing an existing finance team -setting clear expectations, supporting professional growth, and driving a high-performance culture
Full ownership of the month-end close process, including preparation and review of management accounts, P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting
Delivery of statutory financial statements and coordination of the external audit process
Regulatory reporting obligations in line with ASIC requirements and applicable lending compliance frameworks
Treasury and liquidity management, including oversight of warehouse funding facilities, cash flow forecasting, and management of banking relationships
Leading the annual budgeting cycle and rolling forecast process, ensuring outputs are accurate, timely, and commercially meaningful
Building and maintaining financial models to support scenario analysis, product pricing, and strategic planning initiatives
Partnering with the CFO on board and investor reporting packs, ensuring financial narratives are clear and well-supported
Identifying and driving continuous improvement across finance processes, systems, and controls
Acting as a trusted finance partner to non-finance stakeholders across the business, translating financial data into actionable insight
Supporting the CFO on ad hoc strategic and commercial projects as the business evolves
About you
Proven experience leading and managing a finance team (essential)
Significant experience in financial services - residential lending or mortgage industry experience highly regarded
Strong technical accounting background with the ability to operate commercially
Exposure to securitisation, warehouse funding, or RMBS structures will be well regarded
Based in Brisbane or genuinely open to relocating
