The Role
The Oriental Hotel Tumut is a regional pub at the gateway to the beautiful Snowy Region which is focused on quality food and wine & cocktails, functions and outstanding customer service. Tumut is only 2 hours drive from Canberra or 4 hours from Sydney.
As Venue Manager, you will be responsible for the end-to-end operation of a busy pub with accommodation, events, gaming and late trade. Reporting directly to the Venue Owner, you will lead day-to-day operations while driving revenue growth, compliance, and exceptional customer experience.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong commercial judgement, people management skills, and a proactive approach to running a licensed venue.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Compliance
* Lead and supervise bar, kitchen, accommodation and support teams
* Ensure WHS, liquor and licensing compliance at all times
* Oversee security, incident management, and responsible service practices
* Maintain and audit systems including POS, bookings, online ordering and reporting
* Oversee Keno operations (no TAB or gaming) in line with legislation
Financial & Commercial Management
* Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts and financial reports
* Control labour, stock, purchasing and supplier relationships
* Conduct monthly stocktakes and oversee accurate cash handling
* Approve timesheets, payroll, and manage accounts and chargebacks
People Leadership
* Recruit, train and mentor staff across all departments
* Build rosters aligned to sales forecasts and venue activity
* Conduct performance reviews and regular 1:1s
* Foster a positive, accountable team culture
Customer Experience & Events
* Deliver a welcoming, high-quality customer experience
* Oversee functions, late trade, DJs and promotions
* Work with clients to plan and execute functions end-to-end
* Manage and respond to customer feedback professionally
Marketing & Community
* Build strong relationships within the local community
* Provide social media content and support promotions
* Support membership program growth and engagement
About You
* Proven experience as a Venue Manager or senior hospitality manager with great communication skills and attention to detail
* Strong knowledge of NSW liquor, gaming and WHS compliance
* Confident managing budgets, labour, stock and profitability
* Comfortable leading from the front in a fast-paced pub environment
* Organised, decisive, and commercially minded
* Passionate about hospitality, people, and community
