Solicitor and Research Officer, Ongoing opportunity
* An ongoing position has become available in the DCS Legal Services team based at Parramatta Square
* Provide timely, high quality legal advice and effective advocacy in a range of jurisdictions.
* Clerk Grade 7 / 8 ranging from $106,025 - $117,363 base per annum + super.
The Department of Customer Service (DCS) is a service provider, regulator and central agency of government.
Under the supervision of a Managing Lawyer, you will provide sound representation and legal advice to NSW Fair Trading in promoting the protection of consumers, tradespeople and businesses in NSW.
You will be required to appear and/or instruct in prosecution matters and draft legal documentation related to these matters.
You will also have carriage of civil and administrative proceedings on behalf of NSW Fair Trading.
You will be required to provide legal advice in relation to other matters arising in regulatory enforcement and investigations.
Key Responsibilities
* Providing timely, high quality legal advice in criminal, administrative and civil matters across a range of legislation administered by DCS.
* Drafting documents including advices, pleadings, submissions and other court documents, preparing transactional documents, reviewing, drafting and negotiating documents, drafting briefing notes and correspondence.
* Conducting criminal prosecution and/or civil matters primarily in the Local Court, District Court and the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal and briefing and instructing counsel where appropriate.
* Providing timely, high quality legal advice in respect of priority investigation matters.
* Analysing and interpreting complex legislation and participating in legislative projects.
* Assisting clients and other key stakeholders on a range of matters by providing timely, high quality legal advice that supports those clients and key stakeholders.
* Contributing to the maintenance and update of systems, ensuring the integrity of data and consistency of legal services.
* Assisting in developing and delivering guidance or training material to clients and key stakeholders.

Key Requirements
* Hold a current practising certificate in New South Wales.
* Knowledge of two or more of the following: regulatory prosecutions; criminal law; administrative law; and NSW Court and tribunal practice and procedure.
* Legal research skills.
* Proven advocacy skills, or willingness and potential to develop those skills.
* Proven negotiation, stakeholder management, interpersonal and communication skills.
