A leading government-owned organisation operating across North Queensland's port network is seeking an Environmental Advisor to support its ongoing commitment to environmental excellence. Your new role
As the Environmental Advisor, you will provide expert environmental management support across the business. You will be responsible for maintaining the ISO14001-certified Environmental Management System (EMS) and ensuring operational compliance through audits, training, and incident management. Key responsibilities include:
* Maintaining and managing the Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with ISO14001 standards.
* Conducting environmental audits on port operations, projects, and development activities.
* Investigating and reporting environmental incidents.
* Drafting, reviewing, and updating Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), policies, and procedures.
* Delivering internal environmental training programs
* Representing the organisation at stakeholder meetings, forums, and regulatory engagements.
* Coordinating pest and weed management activities in line with biosecurity obligations.
* Leading and supporting environmental monitoring programs, including contractor oversight.
* Providing expert advice to internal teams, senior managers, and executives on environmental matters.
* Managing budgets associated with environmental programs and delegated projects.
* Coordinating the organisation's intern and scholarship programs.
* Contributing to strategic environmental initiatives and supporting continuous improvement activities.
What you'll need to succeed
To thrive in this role, you will bring:
* A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
* Demonstrated experience managing ISO14001-certified EMS and conducting environmental audits.
* Solid understanding of environmental legislation, preferably within port operations or infrastructure.
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including training delivery.
* Proven ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, and priorities effectively.
* Experience in developing and implementing EMPs, policies, and procedures.
* A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
* Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external agencies.
