RODGERS SHEETMETAL ROOFING CLADDING Position : Mechanical Engineering Technician Company : Rodgers Sheetmetal Roofing Cladding Location : North Geelong, Victoria, Australia-3215 Salary : $85,000 + Superannuation Position Summary The Mechanical Engineering Technician works collaboratively with engineers, technologists, and production teams to support mechanical engineering activities related to fabrication, installation, testing and optimisation of sheet metal and associated mechanical systems. This role includes technical support across design, assembly, testing, maintenance and documentation to ensure efficient, safe and compliant outcomes.

Task & responsibilities Key Responsibilities: Assist Mechanical Engineers and Engineering Technologists in the design, development and modification of mechanical components, sheet metal products and associated assemblies used in roofing and fabrication projects. Prepare and interpret technical drawings, sketches and layouts to support fabrication, assembly and installation processes in accordance with engineering specifications. Select appropriate materials, tools, equipment and production methods for mechanical assembly and fabrication tasks to ensure efficiency and compliance with project requirements.

Set up, adjust and maintain fabrication machinery, plant and mechanical equipment used in sheet metal production, ensuring correct calibration and optimal performance. Assemble, install and test mechanical assemblies, components and production equipment in accordance with technical specifications and safety standards. Conduct workshop and field tests on mechanical systems and fabricated components to evaluate performance, durability and compliance with engineering standards.

Collect, record and analyse test data, preparing technical reports, charts and documentation to support engineering decisions and quality control processes. Estimate material quantities, labour requirements and production timelines for mechanical projects, assisting in cost planning and resource allocation. Organise and supervise the inspection, maintenance, repair and calibration of mechanical plant, tools and equipment to ensure operational reliability.

Identify mechanical faults or inefficiencies in production processes and recommend corrective actions or design improvements. Ensure all work is performed in accordance with Australian Standards, workplace health and safety regulations, and company quality assurance procedures. Liaise with engineers, production staff, suppliers and clients to coordinate technical activities and resolve engineering-related issues.

Qualification & experience Skills and Qualifications: Essential Formal qualification in mechanical engineering technology, engineering drafting, advanced diploma or equivalent. Demonstrated experience of 1 year in mechanical assembly, testing, machine setup or similar engineering support activities. Strong practical skills with fabrication tools, measurement instruments and workshop equipment.

Ability to read mechanical drawings, interpret specifications and apply engineering standards. Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills. Desirable Experience in sheet metal manufacturing, roofing component assembly or industrial fabrication environments.
