Phoenix Containers is a leading container solutions company, known for high standards in safety, quality, and customer service.
We're seeking a reliable and experienced Forklift Operator / Yard Hand to join our Operations team, supporting the safe and efficient day-to-day running of our container depot.
You will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of containers, conducting accurate gate-in and gate-out surveys, maintaining a clean and organised yard, and at times help the other divisions of the team when required. This is a hands-on, critical role that contributes to the overall efficiency and professionalism of Phoenix Containers.
Key Responsibilities
Forklift Operation:
* Safely operate forklifts to move, load, and position containers
* Conduct pre-start checks and maintain forklift in operational condition
* Follow site safety protocols and traffic management plans
* Prepare containers for daily dispatch
* Report any faults, hazards, or incidents promptly
Container Surveying (Gate-In & Gate-Out):
* Inspect containers for damage, structural issues, and cleanliness
* Record survey results accurately in the company system
* Take photos to support survey findings when required
* Communicate discrepancies to the Fleet & Depot Services Manager
* Ensure containers meet our quality control standards
Yard Cleanliness & General Duties:
* Maintain tidy and safe yard areas
* Assist with basic yard maintenance and minor repairs
* Support the operations team with container conversions and site organisation
* Identify opportunities to improve yard layout, safety, and efficiency
Teamwork & Communication:
* Work collaboratively with yard staff, drivers, workshop, and office teams
* Communicate clearly when moving containers or identifying issues
* Participate in toolbox meetings and safety briefings
To be considered for this position, you will need to hold a current Forklift licence and proven operating experience. Previous experience in a container depot is advantageous.
Other valuable skills and attributes:
* ICCL certified or container surveying experience highly regarded
* Strong attention to safety and operational detail
* Reliable, organised, and able to work independently and as part of a team
