About Us :Community Gro is a Not for Profit organisation operating in the Community Services sector in Townsville.
We deliver a range of programs to support families and individuals to help reduce social and economic pressures and create life changing opportunities.Our service delivery includes: financial assistance, educational, DV and family supports, emergency food relief, social groups, youth programs.

We currently operate across three sites, with both paid staff and the fantastic support of volunteers.About You :Minimum Certificate III qualification in Community Services, Youth Work or equivalent.Position Summary :The Youth Worker is a highly motivated, emotionally intelligent, creative and flexible team member who is passionate about supporting young people to re-engage in learning.
This program provides an Special Alternative Learning Pathway within a safe and supportive environment, focusing on developing skills, confidence and positive habits to help each participant thrive.Under SALP, structured daytime sessions are offered at our Garbutt Centre: Monday and Friday, 8:00 am–1:00 pm, Tuesday to Thursday, 8:00 am–2:30 pmOBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION:The goal is to engage and support young people aged 10-18 years to access a safer place to reduce the risk of offending, re-offending, and engaging in anti-social behaviours.Participate in Research conducted to identify key success factors, preferred activities by attendees, and strategies that measure success of the program.Help young people to remain active in the program and diverted from potential criminal/unsafe behaviours.Implement Behaviour Management strategies that respect the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of the young person.Assist in supervision of young people in the daily operations of out of hours activities and programs for young people.Increase options for at-risk young people by overseeing the implementation of diversionary activities and assessment out of hours.Transport – provide transport for young people to improve access, inclusion, and engagement in the program.Encourage and support young people to improve relationships with Police, school, and other institutions.Encourage and support young persons to build relationships within Community, improving access and connectedness to Community Elders mentorship.Work autonomously within company guidelines and provide support and assistance to staff, including volunteers.Key Requirements :SELECTION CRITERIA:SC 1 Minimum Certificate III qualification in Community Services, Youth Work or equivalent, and/or have relevant minimum 12months experience in a similar role.SC 2 Demonstrable knowledge and skills gained through qualifications and/or previous experience in a similar role involving group work or working with youth.SC 3 Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with extensive experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and building relationships with clients.SC 4 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to develop strong rapport with young people.SC 5 Current Queensland Class C Drivers Licence, Satisfactory National Police Clearance, and current positive Working with Children Blue Card.Disclosure Requirement: You are required to disclose any pre-existing injuries, illnesses or other conditions which may adversely affect your ability to carry out your duties as described in this position.Job Responsibility :Welcoming young people into the buildings, ensuring their understanding of behaving safely and respectfully, and consequences of non-compliance.
Supervise young people attending the Youth Hubs, ensuring the environment is safe and welcoming and all necessary administrative duties are performed.Supporting young people to access and engage with Youth Hub Case Workers and other services, Develop a professional relationship with young people and supporting young people in, identifying issues affecting them and assessing how the needs can be met.
Identifying and referring when targeted youth support is needed.Mentoring, role modelling, and coaching to encourage young people to develop their self-awareness, independence, and individuality.Advocacy to support to young person's voice, opinion or views in decisions that affect the young person life.
Assisting young people with developing and maintaining community relationships with external stakeholders i.e., schools and colleges, and developing relationships with youth networks in the local area.
Ensuring that all activities are properly documented, and that case notes are recorded accurately into management systems and feedback is collected regularly.
Carry out all duties in accordance with Community Gro's policies and procedures and with relevant legislation, including the provisions of workplace health and safety requirements.Report all hazards and critical incidents and complete written reports as per reporting requirements.
Assisting with the development and delivery of multi-agency projects.
Examples might include:Youth week events, NAIDOC, and other significant milestones celebrated at a community level.
Participate in training and professional development to implement best practice in youth work.Actively contribute to maintaining a positive workplace culture in accordance with our values, vision, mission and code of conduct.
Attend and participate in Full Staff meetings and Team meetings as per scheduling.
