About the Role

As the Environment and Compliance Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring Petuna operates in full compliance with environmental regulations, site licenses, and industry certifications, while driving initiatives that improve ecological performance and sustainability. You will liaise with internal teams, regulatory authorities, and industry stakeholders to maintain high standards of environmental stewardship, compliance reporting, and best practice across freshwater, marine, and processing operations.

This is a full-time role, based in Launceston or Devonport, with occasional travel to operational sites as required.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will include:

* Developing and implementing environmental and sustainability management plans, identifying opportunities to reduce environmental impact and improve operational performance.
* Maintaining accurate compliance records and preparing internal and external reports.
* Providing expert guidance to operational teams on environmental regulations, risk mitigation, and sustainable practices.
* Supporting Petuna's sustainability initiatives, including carbon reduction, packaging innovation, circularity, and water conservation.
* Building strong relationships with regulators, industry groups, and local communities to support environmental stewardship and compliance.
* Assisting with internal audits, biosecurity planning, and R&D projects related to environmental compliance.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

* Tertiary qualification in aquaculture, environmental sustainability, law/compliance, or a related field.
* At least 5 years' experience in environmental compliance, aquaculture, seafood, or a related sector.
* Strong understanding of aquaculture operations, environmental regulations, and sustainability practices.
* Excellent communication skills, including report writing, data analysis, and presentations.
* Proven project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to influence decisions at senior levels.
* A commitment to ethical business practices, environmental conservation, and corporate social responsibility.
* Willingness to travel locally as required.

Desirable Skills

* Experience with certification programs (BAP, HACCP) and compliance reporting frameworks.
* Knowledge of freshwater, marine, and processing environmental management practices.
* Exposure to ERP or compliance management systems.

Benefits

Petuna offers competitive employment conditions, discounted product sales, wellbeing support including an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and discounted health insurance.

Join a leading Tasmanian aquaculture company with global reach, work in a supportive and collaborative environment, and make a tangible impact on environmental performance and sustainability.
