Overview
Bring your technical expertise and leadership skills to one of regional Victoria's most dynamic councils. Wellington Shire is seeking an experienced Municipal Building Surveyor to oversee statutory building functions, guide a skilled team, and ensure the safety and compliance of our built environment.
Reporting To: The Manager Planning And Building
Responsibilities
- Deliver the statutory functions of Municipal Building Services under the Building Act 1993 and related legislation.
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team including a Deputy Building Surveyor, Building Inspectors and Building Administration staff.
- Oversee building permit assessments, inspections, enforcement and public safety responses.
- Advise and support internal teams, Councillors, the community, builders and other professionals on building compliance.
- Prepare reports, manage legal proceedings and represent Council as required.
- Drive continuous improvement in processes, customer service and compliance outcomes.
About You / Qualifications
- You are a confident leader and decision-maker who can balance technical precision with practical problem solving. You will bring:
- Registration as a Building Surveyor Unlimited (or the ability to obtain and maintain).
- Extensive knowledge of the Building Act, Regulations, Codes and Standards, and contemporary building methods.
- Proven experience in a municipal or similar regulatory environment.
- Solid organisational and time-management skills, able to plan, prioritise and deliver under deadlines.
- High-level interpersonal, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills to build effective relationships with staff, stakeholders and the community.
- A current driver's license.
