About the Role You will join our Study NSW team within the Premier’s Department in the Industry and Investment branch of the Investment NSW group. The Associate Director’s responsibility is to lead the development, implementation, and delivery of programs, policies, advocacy efforts, and partnerships for the Study NSW program. The goal is to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of the international education sector in New South Wales (NSW), which is the state’s second largest export and a critical enabler of skills and innovation. As Associate Director, you will manage a team of four direct reports, lead development of the NSW International Education Action Plan, oversee education technology (edtech) engagement, steer the NSW International Education Advisory Board secretariat, and direct a wide array of initiatives and policy, intergovernmental and industry engagement, ensuring that they meet strategic objectives, maintain appropriate governance, and address emerging opportunities or challenges. By leading program delivery, the role involves creating and applying governance and risk frameworks, performance measures, and reporting standards, which are essential to ensuring successful program execution from start to finish. A key part of the role is providing expert advice to the Senior Executive and Minister's Offices on program outcomes, international education policy, and the design of future initiatives. This requires the ability to analyse complex information in a timely manner and to communicate effectively with senior leaders to influence decisions. The advisor must ensure that initiatives align with broader strategic priorities, anticipate sector needs, and help guide policymaking that fosters growth and sustainability of NSW’s international education system. We're Looking For High-level stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build and maintain strategic relationships across government, industry, and international partners. Strong leadership capabilities, including team management, performance coaching, and leading cross-functional projects in complex or high-pressure environments. Experience working within or alongside the NSW Public Sector, with a strong understanding of government structures and decision-making processes. Understanding (or ability to quickly gain understanding) of NSW Government's international education, trade, investment, and industry development priorities, and how they relate to economic growth and regional engagement. Experience in effectively managing internal and external stakeholders reflecting a customer-focused mindset and a commitment to building collaborative relationships. Experience in leading cross-functional projects in sensitive or high-profile contexts necessitates structured planning, delivery, and governance skills Strong financial acumen to Budget for programs, manage agent commissions, or evaluate international ROI Essential requirements Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated equivalent relevant professional experience.
