Job Opportunity - Media Adviser (EOC)
The Office of Senator the Hon Sarah Henderson is seeking applications for a non-ongoing, full-time Media Adviser (EOC) to join her team based in Geelong or Canberra.
Position Overview
As the main point of contact for engagement with journalists, the Media Adviser leads, develops and implements the Office's media and communications strategy.
The key duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Providing expert and timely advice on media and communications matters focused on effective engagement with audiences and constituents;
- Writing media releases, speeches, statements, op-eds, reports and newsletters;
- Creating and producing engaging content and messaging;
- Liaising with media organisations and other relevant stakeholders; and
- Performing other duties as required by the senator.
The ideal applicant
- Prior experience in media/communications or public relations and is highly motivated to support the work of the Coalition;
- Passionate about local and national news and current affairs, particularly as it relates to Australian politics and Victorian issues;
- Possesses exceptional verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail and the ability to distil complex issues into easily understood messages;
- Self-motivated and able to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and in an workplace of competing and changing priorities;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software and other relevant office and content creation applications, as well as social media platforms;
- Possesses qualifications in journalism, public affairs or another relevant discipline; and
- Capacity to work irregular hours (some evenings, early mornings and weekends) as required.
Employment Conditions
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act (1984) and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:
- A commencing salary between $88,160 and $99,305 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
- An additional optional allowance of up to $27,865 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
- Studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
Applicants should note the following:
- The position is based in Geelong or Canberra.
- An initial probationary period of three months applies.
- The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
- Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
- The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
