Overview
The Cloud-Based Engineer designs, delivers and operates cloud and edge-to-cloud capabilities that enable safe, reliable and observable operations of a Collision Avoidance System. This role partners with embedded, systems and product teams to own telemetry ingestion, device management, messaging and observability aligned to the system architecture. You will modernise and harden the equipment-to-cloud pathway while ensuring secure and scalable operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and implement cloud-native services for telemetry ingestion, device messaging and command pathways using MQTT and REST or gRPC
* Engineer streaming and batch data pipelines for logs, metrics and events
* Define and maintain message schemas and contracts across onboard, road-side and cloud boundaries
* Build and operate scalable storage layers including time-series, object and relational databases
* Establish observability standards including centralised logging, distributed tracing and SLO-driven alerting
* Implement secure device onboarding, certificate rotation and role-based access control
* Collaborate with engineers to translate safety requirements into cloud-side validations and fail-safe behaviours
* Create and maintain technical documentation including interface specifications and operational playbooks
* Improve CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code and automated testing frameworks
Required Qualifications
* 3+ years' experience engineering cloud platforms for IoT, edge or safety-related systems
* Strong expertise in MQTT including topic design and QoS policies
* Backend development experience in C#, Go, Python or Java
* Experience with REST or gRPC APIs and event streaming platforms
* Cloud infrastructure experience across AWS, Azure or GCP including networking, IAM and containers
* Experience with observability tooling and data engineering practices
* Security-by-design knowledge including PKI, certificate rotation and least-privilege IAM
* Strong understanding of telemetry ingestion and device-cloud interactions over LTE or 4G
* Experience with schema design and serialisation formats such as JSON, Avro or Protobuf
* Knowledge of time-series storage, data lakes and governance
* Proactive problem-solving mindset with a focus on reliability and graceful degradation
* Clear communication skills with strong documentation capability
* Commitment to automation, reproducibility and rigorous testing practices
