About the Role
You will be responsible for coordinating development assessment operations, mentoring staff, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and planning instruments, and representing the Council in Land & Environment Court matters.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate development assessment operations to ensure timely and effective planning decisions
* Mentor and support staff across assessment functions to enhance their skills and knowledge
* Evaluate and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and planning instruments
* Represent the Council in Land & Environment Court matters to protect its interests
* Develop and implement strategies to improve customer service excellence and continuous improvement
* Liaise with stakeholders including planning panels, solicitors, and the community to ensure effective communication
* Deliver complex and high-profile assessments and reports to inform decision-making
Requirements and Qualifications
* Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning, Building Surveying, or related fields
* Knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and other relevant legislation
* Experience leading planning assessment functions, preferably in local government
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and mediation skills to build strong relationships with stakeholders
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to evaluate complex information and make informed decisions
* A collaborative leadership style focused on service excellence and innovation to inspire and motivate team members
