Everyone at the Y NT is dedicated to supporting children, young people and communities to thrive. Whether it's at Early Learning Centres, Outside Hours School Care, at their Recreation centres, Aquatic facilities, in their Youth Programs, Remote Pools program, or at the Hostel, the Y is committed to supporting Territorians to be connected, educated, resilient and healthy. 
The Opportunity 
The Y NT manages the City of Darwin's three pools: Nightcliff Pool, Parap Pool and Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre, and Darwin Waterfront's Lagoon and Wave Pool. 
Pool Lifeguards at the Y NT are responsible, approachable and confident swimmers who supervise our pools and surrounding areas, taking on a great responsibility to uphold the highest level of care and safety. Pool Lifeguards act as positive role models in an effort to build strong people, strong families and strong communities within the facilities that we manage. 
Responsibilities 
Maintain a safe recreational environment by patrolling the assigned pools or pool areas, directing the public to ensure correct and safe usage in the Aquatic Centre, undertaking constant visible monitoring, making informed assessments of situations, providing lifeguard procedures and first aid, resuscitation and emergency life support as required 
Ensure facility rules are being obeyed, whilst educating facility users about safe aquatic practices 
Assist in maintaining the plant room and associated equipment in good working order 
Conduct and record water treatment tests and maintain water quality within the Health Department Guidelines 
Report on pool incidents and take appropriate timely action to address and resolve matters 
Provide information and advice on programs, pools and safe pool practices to the public as required 
Maintain and clean the pools and surrounding areas to established standards 
Complete all necessary opening, daily and closing checklists to a high standard 
Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of the Centre's Emergency Action Plan 
Implement Work Health Safety (WHS) procedures in relation to all relevant areas of responsibility and maintain a clean and safe workplace 
Maintain a safe, healthy and clean environment 
Identify hazards and take action to remove these hazards 
Identify risks and report them in a timely manner 
Commitment to customer service excellence by handling customer queries, feedback and complaints in a professional and timely manner 
About you 
You are a customer service focused, positive and motivated individual who strives in a fast-paced environment. You have strong communication and observation skills and are able to keep calm and act quickly in an emergency. 
You will also have, or have the ability to obtain: 
Working with Children Clearance 
Satisfactory Criminal History Check 
First Aid Certificate 
Pool Lifeguard Certificate
