The Department of Defence is the Federal Government's largest landholder, managing over 3 million hectares across the country. Within the Security and Estate Group, Estate Planning plays a critical role—providing the strategic planning framework and guidance for more than 70 major bases, 70 training ranges, and over 800 leased and owned properties.This is the Defence Estate.

In this role, you will contribute to estate analysis and planning outcomes within an integrated workforce, gaining valuable exposure to planning legislation and practices across Australia. You will have opportunities to make an impact at the local (base), regional, and national levels while collaborating across Defence and Government on planning initiatives that shape the future of the estate.

About our Team
The Security and Estate Group (SEG) is responsible for developing and sustaining the Defence estate, and serves as the consolidated security and service delivery organisation for Defence. Within SEG, the Estate Planning team plays a critical role in shaping the future of Defence infrastructure and land use.
Our Work Includes:
* Developing policy for managing the Defence estate;
* Leading engagement with local governments and external stakeholders;
* Managing land use matters such as urban encroachment and assessing development applications;
* Acting as the delegated departmental planning approval authority for infrastructure projects, facility upgrades, and land divestments;
* Conducting strategic assessments for estate acquisitions, disposals, and leases;
* Leading resilience and critical infrastructure initiatives across Defence; and
* Collaborating with other SEG branches, Defence groups and services, and other government agencies to deliver integrated outcomes.
While the majority of our team is based in Canberra, we are a geographically dispersed workforce with staff located in Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, Brisbane, and regional New South Wales. This national footprint enables us to deliver regionally informed and strategically aligned estate planning outcomes.
