Offer description

Overview

School Psychologist role at Department of Education, Western Australia is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 4, 2025. The School of Special Educational Needs: Disability (SSEN:D) is seeking an innovative, dynamic, and committed School Psychologist with proven skills as a whole-school and systems leader to join our leadership team. The commencement date may be negotiable, with a start date as late as Term 1 2026.

SSEN:D is one of eight Specialist Schools within Statewide Services. We partner with schools to provide collaborative support and resources that promote learning environments where every student's potential is realised. Support is provided state-wide through a Request for Assistance model that matches school needs to the skill set of Consulting Teachers.

SSEN:D is a school that strives for excellence and is committed to building the capability of teachers and school-based staff within a culture of support to ensure every student with disability is a successful student. We provide consultancy services to educators, contextualised and evidence-informed professional learning, online research, information, resources and practical support in our service delivery model.

We encourage our staff to share knowledge and exhibit self-reflective practices with a focus on quality teaching. Self-improvement is supported amongst our staff through a range of Professional Learning Communities.

Our leadership team is based at Statewide Services Centre (Padbury), and at our south hub (South Lake Primary School). The successful applicant will be required to move between these locations but will predominately be based in the Padbury hub. The successful applicant will also be required to regularly work across a number of metropolitan and regional locations throughout the state. The role may occasionally involve state-wide travel with some overnight stays and may include long-distance driving, some of which may be in remote locations. Ideally, the successful applicant will hold a current and valid "C" class driver's license. Travel may involve the use of the employee's own motor vehicle.

The Role

As a SSEN:D School Psychologist, you will ideally provide expert psychological consultation to support the learning, behaviour, and wellbeing of students with disability across Western Australia. This role works within a consultative model, partnering with Consulting Teachers, school teams, and system leaders to support complex case conceptualisation, strengthen school capability, and contribute to strategic responses. You will help develop shared understandings of student needs and support evidence-informed practice through a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework. You will also collaborate with school-based and Lead School Psychologists to ensure SSEN:D services align with and enhance existing supports. The position involves flexible service delivery across metropolitan and regional areas, using a mix of face-to-face, virtual, and remote platforms. In addition to case consultation, you will ideally contribute to professional learning, resource development, and system-level initiatives while maintaining high professional and ethical standards.

This position requires well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, as well as expert knowledge and understanding of contemporary practice in supporting students with disability. As this is a specialist role, you will ideally possess general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. You will be joining a supportive team environment and will work alongside another experienced SSEN:D School Psychologist, enabling collaboration, peer consultation, and shared professional growth.
