The role
Role Overview
We are creating a new Health and Safety Lead position to drive a positive safety culture and HSW strategies in a complex environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operational leadership, management and continuous improvement of health and safety programs and systems across the University.
Location: Albury‐Wodonga, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange or Wagga Wagga. Salary: Level8 – $113,948 to $128,980pa (plus 17% superannuation).
Working hours: 35‐hour work week with flexible and hybrid arrangements and flexi leave.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and continuously improve health and safety programs and systems across the University.
- Develop, implement and evaluate policies, programmes and initiatives that ensure a secure, healthy and compliant environment for staff, students and visitors.
- Mentor and develop a team of health and safety professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and consistent ways of working across a dispersed team.
- Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and provide strategic, pragmatic and risk‐based advice on complex health and safety matters.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated experience and success leading a team of HSW practitioners.
- Proven ability to uplift and improve safety culture and outcomes, and experience in leading the design and implementation of safety management systems and programmes in a complex environment.
- Expertise in developing and implementing HSW policies, standards and reporting, and strong knowledge of relevant legislation, codes and standards (including ISO*****).
- Proven experience providing strategic, credible and risk‐based advice to senior leaders, including on complex incident and risk matters.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication, negotiation and influencing skills, and ability to maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
- Postgraduate qualifications in WHS, risk management or a related field would be highly regarded.
