Metso is seeking a Design Engineer to join our dedicated Pumps Team in Kalgoorlie. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and development of customised pump and pumping solutions, with a strong focus on day-to-day customer orders, brownfields conversions, and retrofit solutions.
You will provide technical expertise across the full design lifecycle, supporting customer quotations, manufacturing, and cross‑functional teams locally and globally, while ensuring solutions are practical, compliant, and fit-for-purpose in existing plant environments.
This position is based in Kalgoorlie. We welcome applications from local candidates or those open to relocating to the area.
As a Design Engineer, you will:
* Develop engineered solutions for brownfields installations, including retrofit, replacement, and conversion of existing equipment.
* Produce high-quality 3D models using Metso's current design software.
* Create accurate manufacturing and fabrication drawings in accordance with company standards, engineering calculations, and existing models or 3D scan data.
* Generate General Arrangement (GA) drawings for customer review, installation, and site integration.
* Interpret and work from existing plant layouts, scanned data, and legacy drawings to ensure compatibility with installed equipment.
* Assist with resolving issues related to assembly challenges, dimensional clashes, or incorrectly fabricated components.
* Perform and initiate basic strength evaluations and engineering calculations to support design integrity.
* Generate part numbers and manage item master data in the business system.
* Maintain and update the drawing register, Vault, and document control systems.
* Conduct and document product safety reviews as an integral part of the design process.
* Participate in formal design reviews, risk assessments, and constructability discussions.
* Recommend and implement design improvements based on feedback from production, quality, procurement, and site personnel.
* Work independently or as part of order-based or project engineering teams, acting as a technical contributor or lead where required.
* Support additional engineering tasks and special projects as needed.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
* A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
* Proven experience in 2D drafting and 3D CAD modelling within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
* Experience using 3D scanning technology and producing overlay or reference-based drawings.
* Hands-on experience designing with standard machine elements and structural steel.
* Knowledge of centrifugal pumps, pipework, foundations, and fixed plant installations, ideally in brownfields environments.
* An understanding of design constraints associated with operating sites, including access, lifting, tolerances, and constructability.
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and operational teams.
* A proactive, solution-focused mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
