Associate Professor First Peoples Nursing (Identified role)

Employment Type: Full‐time (35 hours a week)

Duration: Continuing

Remuneration: $185k – $204k base (+17% superannuation, leave loading)

Work rights: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia to be considered for this position.

Location: Some NSW site travel required (Port Macquarie, Liverpool clinical campuses), but flexible working considered.

UNSW Discipline of Nursing

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is establishing a Discipline of Nursing within the School of Population Health. The first nursing program to be developed is the Graduate Entry Master of Nursing Program, that will commence in 2028.

The Opportunity

This exciting new opportunity is a joint role between Blakcademy and the School of Population Health (SPH), leading and advancing First Peoples Nursing education nationally and internationally. The position provides leadership in curriculum innovation, professional development, student experience, academic compliance, and research. It requires strong expertise in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, including social and cultural determinants and the impacts of colonisation and racism, alongside significant experience in nursing or health education, particularly in designing, teaching, and assessing culturally safe curricula that integrate First Peoples perspectives.

Key Skills And Experience Required

* A PhD in nursing or a related health discipline, and/or relevant tertiary degree, preferably and/or relevant extensive teaching, curriculum design work experience.
* Registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) as a registered nurse.
* Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
* Demonstrated experience in First Peoples teaching and learning design using a range of pedagogical (including Indigenous) approaches, development and delivery of courses and programs, at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
* Experience of implementing educational technologies and online delivery methods.Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for First Peoples nursing educational excellence and fostering this in others.
* Demonstrated experience with industry or work-integrated learning relating to First Peoples health.
* Evidence of professional development of teaching practice in self and others with the ability to advance and lead an inclusive culture of excellence in First Peoples learning and teaching in nursing or health related programs.
* Demonstrated success in initiating First Peoples curriculum development and improvement in nursing or health related programs.
* Experience mentoring and supporting early- and mid-career academic staff.
* Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
* Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity diversity and inclusion initiatives.
* Significant track record in research leadership with outcomes of high quality and high international impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence and deliver research leadership.
* Demonstrated leadership in building First Peoples engagement and partnerships with the health profession and industry.
