About the Role:

The Ranger is responsible for overseeing the effective operational management of parks and reserves, and other lands as required, within the district. Core responsibilities surround the management of park conservation and wildlife values, actively participating in fire and emergency response, the maintenance and presentation of park facilities and assets and ensuring park visitors enjoy a memorable experience. The Ranger also builds meaningful relationships with key partners, including park neighbours, conservation partners and Aboriginal communities.

This Ranger role is based at Mambray Creek in Mount Remarkable National Park, reporting to the Senior Ranger. The role will manage and supervise seasonal staff at Mambray Creek and take part in all aspects of park management including feral animal control, prescribed burning, bushfire response, flora and fauna surveys and monitoring, compliance, facilities maintenance, and management of the recently redeveloped Mambray Creek Campground, the new 38km Remarkable Epic Mountain biking trail, and dozens of kilometres of other hiking and biking trails. This role will also have the chance to be a part of re-designing and re-building the fire-affected Alligator Gorge section of Mount Remarkable NP. The successful applicant will work across all parks and reserves in the Southern Flinders including two national parks, six conservation parks, and a marine park with opportunities to participate in activities in other districts and regions throughout the state including through the Bounce back program, fire management, and targeted compliance programs.

Contract:

Contract for up to 26 October 2026

Special Conditions:

* Will be required to participate in emergency operations including bushfire operations, search and rescue and marine mammal strandings. This may require at times, some out of hours work including the participation in an "on-call" roster.
* Will be required to undertake a medical and fitness assessment for a Fire Fighting Role Classification as defined in the DEW Fire Management Policy and Procedures.
* Will be required to work some weekends, public holidays and days of significant fire danger for which a penalty rate will be applied.
* May be required to work from any location within the region or any region or management unit within the state.
* Will be required to wear a uniform in accordance with DEW policy.
* A current class "C" driver's licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4wd is essential.
* Intra and inter-state travel is required, including extended periods of time away from home and travel in light aircraft.
* A current Provide First Aid Certificate is desirable (HLTAID001; HLTAID002 and HLTAID003) or must be willing to obtain a certificate as part of employment.
* This role has been designated as a Position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework. * This role has functions pertaining to working with children and is prescribed under the Child Safety (Prohibited Person) Act 2016 as requiring a Working With Children Check (WWCC). By applying for this role you consent to being screened for appropriate behaviour and to the Department obtaining or requiring you to obtain a WWCC.

Remuneration:

OPS3 $67,589 min - $72,033 max p.a.

* Knowledge and experience in ecological, nature conservation, land, and visitor management principles and practices.
* Understanding and ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and regulations including the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972 and Regulations.
* Knowledge of contemporary project and risk management approaches.
* Details of any tertiary qualification in natural resource management or other relevant field.
