Registered Nurse – Operating Theatre (Grade 5)

Mackay Base Hospital is seeking an experienced Theatre Registered Nurse (Grade 5) with versatile skills across PACU, Anaesthetics, and Scrub/Scout. This exciting opportunity offers a rewarding placement in one of Queensland's major regional hospitals, supporting surgical services across a dynamic and collaborative perioperative environment.
About the Role
This is a short-term placement ideal for a skilled Theatre All-Rounder who is confident and competent across the full perioperative continuum. You will be required to rotate through:
PACU (Recovery)
Anaesthetics
Scrub/Scout roles
The successful candidate must have recent, broad-based theatre experience and be comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team in a busy, regional hospital setting.
Placement Details
Dates: 04 August 2025 – 26 October 2025
Shifts: Rotating 8- and 10-hour shifts (morning, afternoon, and night), as per roster
Hours: Max. 80 hours per fortnight (overtime applies beyond this)
Location: Operating Theatres, Mackay Base Hospital, QLD
Mandatory Requirements
Recent experience in a theatre setting across PACU, Anaesthetics, and Scrub/Scout
Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Resuscitation/Triage certificates
Current BLS competency
Emergency Triage Education Kit (ETEK)
Manual and patient handling training
Infection control training
Aggressive behaviour management training
Mandatory reporting competency (child abuse and neglect)
Medication management including QPHS (Drugs and Poisons) Regulations (Nov 2012)
Desirable
Proficiency in ieMR (Integrated electronic Medical Record)
Previous experience with Queensland Health, Mackay HHS, or similar Australian hospital settings
Additional Requirements
The successful candidate must be willing to undertake:
ieMR training
Online induction training
Other relevant HHS-mandated education
