Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health & Community Services (Winnunga AHCS) is Canberra’s only Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service, providing culturally safe and holistic healthcare to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the ACT and surrounding regions. We work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team that includes GPs, nurses, allied health professionals, and social health workers to deliver comprehensive, community-focused healthcare.
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Clinical Psychologist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional who is committed to providing culturally appropriate psychological services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, helping them navigate mental health challenges and improve their overall well-being.
In this role, you will provide high-quality psychological assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based therapy, as well as collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver integrated care.
Key Responsibilities:
•Conduct psychological assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans for individual clients
•Provide individual and group therapy, applying culturally safe and trauma-informed practices
•Work with clients to address mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use
•Collaborate with GPs, allied health professionals, and other service providers to ensure holistic care
•Offer culturally safe mental health support and resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients
•Contribute to mental health promotion and community outreach initiatives
•Participate in case conferences, care plans, and other collaborative meetings
•Provide professional supervision and guidance to junior staff as needed
About You:
The ideal candidate will have:
•A Master’s or Doctoral qualification in Clinical Psychology
•Full registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
•Experience providing psychological services in a community or healthcare setting
•Understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and ways of working
•Knowledge of trauma-informed care and experience working with clients who have experienced significant adversity
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders
•A current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration (or willingness to obtain)
•A valid driver’s licence
