About the role
We have two (2) permanent full-time Team Leader positions available for immediate filling. One to lead the Analytical toxicology team (Position number CC020161) and one to lead the WA Police Toxicology team (Position number CC013013).
The Analytical Toxicology team is primarily focused on supporting coronial, road policing and criminal toxicology programs. This is accomplished through routine analytical toxicology services, which are essential for the effective functioning of these programs. The Analytical Toxicology team also delivers toxicology services to external stakeholders.
The WA Police Toxicology team is dedicated to supporting road policing and criminal investigations by providing toxicology results related to sobriety and criminal cases. Their work ensures that law enforcement receives accurate and timely toxicology information vital for investigations and legal proceedings.
These Team Leader roles provide operational leadership within a forensic toxicology environment, overseeing workflows, quality assurance and the delivery of accurate, timely analytical results. They lead and develop high‐performing scientific teams, manage resources and performance, ensure compliance with accreditation standards, and contribute to complex casework, method development and stakeholder engagement.
Additional information about the roles
The nature of our work within the FSL varies and involves exposure to sensitive and, at times, confronting material. Staff are supported with a specialist employee health and well‐being program dedicated to providing self‐care and resilience building strategies. This program also provides training and employee support is available at any time. The applicant must be suited to work in an area where there is an expectation and willingness to seek, engage and accept help with psychological services. Personal qualities that include well developed resilience and tact are important attributes required for this role.
Prior to commencing employment, a National Police Clearance, Fitness for Work (alcohol and drug testing) and WAPF Integrity Check will be required for a successful applicant. A DNA sample may be required for our staff DNA elimination database.
The position is located in Building 500, Resources and Chemistry Precinct, Manning Road, Bentley.
To be eligible for a permanent position, Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency is essential.

Qualifications & Experience
The following criteria will be assessed at a later stage of the recruitment and selection process.
* Copies of your relevant qualifications and academic transcripts (Essential Criteria 1)
* A separate written statement demonstrating your ability to meet the following selection criteria, as detailed in the attached JDF and in the context of the advert.
* Criteria 2: Extensive knowledge and experience in toxicology, including analysis, method development and troubleshooting using sophisticated analytical instrumentation (such as LC‐HRMS and LC‐QQQ).
* Criteria 3: Demonstrated effective leadership and management skills to develop staff in science and laboratory operations and with the ability to build cohesive, high performing teams.
* Criteria 5: Experience in managing stakeholder relationships, including the ability to provide expert advice and consultative services to internal and external clients and other stakeholders.
