The Role
This is a 12-month Fixed Term opportunity (potential for extension) as a Responsive Maintenance Officer. You will work both independently and as part of a supportive team at the Queens Rd, Melbourne and Blackburn sites. The role is full‐time, hands‐on, and offers variety, autonomy and impact. Compensation includes a competitive salary, superannuation, salary packaging and access to a company car.
As our Responsive Maintenance Officer, you'll be responsible for managing our asset base and ensuring our properties are well maintained, safe, and welcoming for residents. Your work will directly enhance the living experience of people in our community, including those who may be vulnerable or facing difficulties. You will often liaise with vulnerable individuals who may be marginalised and/or exhibit challenging behaviour.
You should have experience supervising responsive and vacant property maintenance, reporting findings, and considering the full lifecycle of building components, preferably in residential or social housing environments. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will contribute to overall asset performance through proactive and responsive asset management while maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and safety requirements.
In This Role You Will
* Carry out quality inspections and proactively identify and report on maintenance needs before they become problems.
* Manage contractors and service providers to deliver high‐quality repairs and upkeep.
* Respond quickly and respectfully to resident repair requests.
* Ensure all work meets compliance, safety, and quality standards and maintain records.
* Support the delivery of minor capital works, refurbishment and improvement projects.
* Work collaboratively to identify defects.
* Build positive relationships with residents, colleagues, and contractors.
About You
To be successful for this role, you will have experience in responsive and vacant property maintenance and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable people in our community.
Essential Criteria
* Demonstrated experience in building or property maintenance, preferably within residential environments.
* Experience managing contractors and service providers.
* Strong work ethic, ability to work independently, willingness to learn, and a caring and empathetic nature.
* Strong customer focus and confidence in liaising with various stakeholders including vulnerable people.
* Exposure to using maintenance management systems or digital tools for logging and tracking work orders.
* Previous experience working on Microsoft Office programs including Excel.
* Ability to compose professional correspondence via email to internal and external stakeholders.
* Green/White WHS Construction Induction Card (or ability to obtain).
* Sound knowledge and application of WHS practices.
* A current driver's licence.
Desirable
* Previous experience working in the social/community housing industry.
* Certificate IV or above in a relevant trade, ideally Building and/or Carpentry.
* Experience or knowledge of property management.

Please note that satisfactory police check is required for all staff and those with client related responsibilities are required to provide a NDIS and Working with Children Check (WWCC).
