Social connections are essential to everyone's wellbeing, and that includes people living with dementia.
1:1 time with a kind and caring volunteer visitor can help a person feel valued and supported and help them connect with things from their lives that they have found enjoyable and meaningful.
We're looking for a special person who can give the gift of time and patient nature by visiting a gentleman in Woy Woy for companionship. This is through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS), a government funded program for older people living in residential aged care to ease loneliness and reduce social isolation.
Our team of Volunteer Visitors are empathetic, compassionate and kind-hearted people wanting to make a real difference to the lives of an older person living in their local area.
Visits are purely for social reasons (no personal care duties) and happen on a regular ongoing basis each week or fortnight. Visits are spent doing activities you both enjoy - take a trip down memory lane looking at old photos, listen to music, go for a walk in the garden, share a hobby, or enjoy a game or activity together.
It's all about connection, companionship and community.
Volunteer Visitors require patience and reliability...and above all else, a heart for older people. You will be supported in your role by an ACVVS Coordinator.
Volunteers undergo a police check and complete a short online training program before commencing their volunteering role.
Volunteering Central Coast's ACVVS program extends to residential aged care home in locations throughout the NSW Central Coast.
Register your interest now and an ACVVS Coordinator will get in touch to arrange an interview at a mutually convenient time.
Volunteers must be aged 18 years or older and be able to make a minimum commitment of 6 months or longer.
