About the Role:
The CFA vegetation management program aims to reduce the risk and severity of bushfires through fuel management and building capacity and capability of volunteers, staff and the community. As the Vegetation Management Officer located at District 2 Bendigo you will take responsibility for the following:
* Develop works plans through input into the Joint Fuel Management Program (JFMP) with key stakeholder groups for regions to identify and prioritise treatments to reduce bushfire risk.
* Assist in the review, development and implementation of linear breaks.
* Initiate and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Managing consultation processes and engagement with community, stakeholders and other government agencies. Collaboratively providing ecologically sustainable, culturally sensitive and risk-based vegetation management solutions
* Provide technical knowledge and authoritative expertise.
* Manage inspections with CFA brigades with intention to develop suitable treatment plans ensuring appropriate processes are followed, approvals are in place and effectively utilising agreed systems
* Work collaboratively with communities and other stakeholders to deliver accurate, timely and specialised vegetation management and fire prevention advice
* Communicate legislative requirements, CFA policies and guidelines to relevant stakeholders
* Monitor and review the implementation of treatment plans for continuous improvement.
* Ensure all reporting requirements are completed in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with legislation, policies, guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures
* Allocate tasks, provide guidance and support to the Vegetation Management Support Officers to facilitate the delivery of the vegetation management programs.
* Supervise contractors undertaking vegetation management works or site preparation tasks.
* Undertake roles in post fire rehabilitation work as required by Region and District
About You:
The successful applicant will have:
* Appropriate tertiary qualification and/or demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative, environmental and technical issues relevant to vegetation management.
* Demonstrated experience and ability to assess vegetation management risks, develop appropriate mitigation plans and facilitate implementation of those plans.
* Demonstrated ability to develop, build and maintain partnerships between key stakeholder groups.
* Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), including the ability to prepare high level written advice, plans and reports.
* Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Able to work with limited supervision.
* Experience in working with diverse communities and volunteers
This role requires travel throughout the North West Region of Victoria. A full driver's licence is essential, and after-hours work will be required.
