> Working at the Roy Fagan Centre - A Career with Purpose The Nursing Role Nurses at the Roy Fagan Centre are at the heart of our care model, supporting older persons with complex mental health needs, neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia, and other age related conditions.
Our nursing team works within a multidisciplinary framework to deliver compassionate, person centred care that prioritises dignity, safety, and emotional wellbeing.
Registered Nurse Role: Provide hands on direct support for patient ADLs, ensuring dignity and comfort.
Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial and mental state assessments.
Monitor and review treatment responses, updating care plans as needed.
Deliver person centred, trauma informed care within a multidisciplinary team.
Engage therapeutically with patients and families to support recovery goals.
Administer medications and monitor for efficacy and side effects.
Document assessments, risk evaluations, and care plans in electronic records.
Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and clinical education.
Our nursing workforce operates on a 12 hour shift pattern, with full time staff typically working two days on, two days off.

Who We Are The Roy Fagan Centre (RFC) is Tasmania's statewide specialised inpatient mental health facility for older persons, and part of Older Person's Mental Health Service (OPMHS).
We provide compassionate, person centred care to individuals experiencing acute mental ill health, neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia, and complex psychiatric conditions.
Our multidisciplinary team works across four purpose built units, each designed to support dignity, safety, and therapeutic engagement.
What We Do Acute psychiatric care Dementia and neuropsychiatric treatment Geriatric rehabilitation Palliative and end of life care Rehabilitation and recovery focused programs Support for families, carers, and community transitions Our patients are older Tasmanians age 65+, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50+, who require specialised mental health support.
We also support individuals with young onset neurodegenerative conditions.

Knowledge and understanding of the psychosocial and health needs of individuals and their application to nursing practice in the acute adult mental health setting, including an understanding of the principles of maintaining appropriate therapeutic relationships with consumers.
Relevant experience in an acute Mental Health setting with demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act ****.

Details of appointment: Multiple fixed term, full time or part time, shift worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a period of up to six (6) months.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary:$78,179 to $105,995 per annum (Pro rata).
Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement ****.
Access to the Grade 4 salary range $99,455- $105,995 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4 In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type Salary Packaging: You'll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
Benefits available to eligible candidates: Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.

Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable: Possess or be working towards a specialist tertiary graduate or post graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification, or completed prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, a hospital-based training program that resulted in previous registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse registration authority within Australia Note: - Please refer to the Application Guide for more information of pre employment check.
