Director - First Nations Clean Energy Network
This position is designated as an Indigenous Identified Position. The filling of this position is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and s 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) and s 8(4) of the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 (Vic).
The First Nations Clean Energy Network aims to ensure First Nations people play a central role in Australia's clean energy boom. We support community-owned renewable projects to deliver lower-cost, reliable energy.
Mission
1. Support communities to drive the development of clean energy projects that provide direct benefits to residents through reduced household energy costs and more reliable energy.
2. Establish an innovation hub, promoting the implementation of best practice principles that should underpin all agreements for land use and benefit sharing between First Nations groups, companies and investors.
3. Advocate to lift significant federal and state regulatory barriers to renewable energy development.
We work with First Nations people, communities and organisations, collaborating with industry, investors, unions, academics, legal and technical experts. Our goal is to ensure our people are part of the renewable energy revolution.
About the Role
You will report to Original Power's Executive Director and work alongside the Director, Policy and Engagement. You will lead the development of new initiatives, build a network of experts in providing advice and support to local communities, and work with stakeholders and representative bodies to ensure First Nations communities share in the benefits of the renewables boom.
Key Responsibilities
1. Refine and implement strategic direction and associated new initiatives.
2. Build and develop a national team to support the growth of the network.
3. Work with relevant stakeholders and communities to develop initiatives related to clean energy.
4. Collaborate with the Director, Policy and Engagement to monitor relevant policy and clean energy sector developments.
5. Coordinate the First Nations Clean Energy Network Steering Group.
6. Manage and develop new partnerships with key stakeholders.
7. Ensuring community aspirations and priorities are met.
8. Representing the Network and Original Power in various meetings.
9. Implementing systems and processes that ensure transparency.

Your skills and experience include:
1. Outstanding strategic and project management.
2. Demonstrated experience in community engagement.
3. High level supervisory and organisational experience.
4. Extensive knowledge of First Nations.
5. Adept at spotting political barriers and opportunities.
6. High level cultural competency.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Selection Criteria
To be considered for this role, you will have:
1. At least three - five years' experience in high level strategic and organisational management.
2. Strategic leadership skills and knowledge of policy areas such as climate change and renewable energy.
3. High level of cultural knowledge with experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
4. Excellent communication skills with proven ability to generate high quality research-based content.
5. Excellent organisational skills including time management.
Qualifications & Skills
It would be highly desirable if you have:
1. Experience working in community political and/or social movement campaigns.
2. Familiarity with budget management and corporate governance.
