ABOUT THE ROLES
South Gippsland Shire Council currently has two Health, Safety and Wellbeing opportunities within the Culture and Capability Directorate. These roles will contribute to strengthening our safety culture, supporting employee wellbeing, and ensuring the effective implementation of health and safety initiatives that benefit our people and the wider community.
Health, Safety and Wellbeing Officer
* Part Time (3 days a week, EFT 0.6) – Ongoing
* Band 5 – $47,214.65 + 12% Superannuation
* Based at various locations across the Shire
Role Includes a Range Of Responsibilities Such As:
* Support incident, injury, hazard, and near‐miss reporting systems.
* Ensure incidents are accurately recorded, investigated, and corrective actions are tracked to completion.
* Maintain and regularly review HS&W documentation, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
* Maintain risk registers and compliance registers.
* Provide administrative and governance support to WHS Committees and HSR processes, including agendas, minutes, and action tracking.
Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor
* Full Time – Ongoing
* Band 6 – $94,663.33 + 12% Superannuation
* Based at various locations across the Shire
Role Includes a Range Of Responsibilities Such As:
* Provide specialist HS&W advice and guidance across the organisation.
* Conduct incident and hazard reporting, safety investigations including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
* Conduct risk assessments, site audits and inspections to identify and monitor hazards.
* Coordinate and maintain emergency management systems, including signage, procedures, warden/first aid registers and evacuation drills.
* Assist in developing, reviewing and improving HS&W policies, procedures, Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), and the HS&W management system.
ABOUT YOU
To Succeed In This Role You Will Have:
Health, Safety and Wellbeing Officer
* Certificate IV or Diploma in WHS or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
* Strong organisational, administrative and analytical skills with sound computer literacy.
* Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
* Strong customer service focus with well‐developed communication, problem‐solving and interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team in a collaborative environment.
* Experience in maintaining an OHS/HS&W management system and supporting compliance activities (desirable experience in broader People and Culture initiatives also highly regarded).
Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor
* Demonstrated experience in a Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HS&W) role, providing specialist advice across a diverse organisation.
* Relevant WHS qualification (Certificate IV or Diploma) and/or extensive equivalent experience in a similar role.
* Proven ability to develop, implement and continuously improve HS&W systems, including effective use of technology to enhance safety outcomes.
* Experience conducting safety investigations, audits and workplace inspections.
* Sound understanding of Victoria OHS legislation and compliance requirements, with the ability to apply these in a practical workplace environment.
* Strong organisational, analytical and administrative skills, with experience managing data, systems and reporting accurately and effectively.
* Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and engage a wide range of stakeholders.
