Primary objective

Manage the development, implementation, delivery, assessment and review of the training program for the effective

implementation and advancement of current programs and new initiatives in Community Corrections across the NT.

Context statement

The position holder is responsible for training and capacity building Compliance Officers, Probation and Parole Officers and Team

Leaders in key aspects of their statutory roles, including case management of offenders and preparation of court assessments and

parole reports.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Develop and implement a training program that addresses training and development needs for the effective implementation

and advancement of new initiatives and core business delivery using cost effective models.

2. Ensure the training program addresses both current and future training and development needs of Community Corrections staff

covering complex case management and statutory obligations such as writing assessments for Court and the Parole Board.

3. Identify on-going training needs, deliver training and/or co-ordinate internal and external training providers and staff as required

to ensure that training meets the needs of participants to build an effective and skilled workforce.

4. Develop partnerships with key stakeholders including Department of Corrections Registered Training Organisation to ensure

the training development and delivery meets appropriate standards and qualifications.

5. Target capacity building to support career progression within this specialised work environment.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent qualification.

2. Demonstrated experience in the development, preparation, delivery, assessment and review of accredited training packages

that promote effective competency development.

3. Demonstrated high level interpersonal and oral and written communication skills with the ability to develop partnerships with

a range of stakeholders to facilitate effective program development and delivery.

4. Experience in conducting research, analysis and reporting to meet identified training needs identification and monitoring

including ability to develop technical competencies, identify skills gaps, develop training to address identified needs, collate

training information and evaluate ongoing effectiveness.

1. Proven ability to design and deliver specialised core and noncore training programs for group or one on one delivery to meet

legislative requirements and practice decisions.

1. Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively within a team to achieve high level results and meet deadlines

within tight time constraints.

1. Demonstrated knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures governing Community Corrections. Proven ability to engage,

coach, mentor and motivate change amongst staff.

Desirable

1. Previous experience and/or knowledge of a correctional services/community corrections environment

Further information

Successful applicant must hold a manual Northern Territory Driver's Licence and may be required to travel within regional and

remote communities and camp out when required. Travel may be by means of road and air, including on outback roads in four-

wheel drives, light aircraft and boats. A willingness to work flexible hours will also be required. The Department of Corrections

has a Smoke Free Policy. Staff are not permitted to smoke anywhere on departmental premises, facilities or in vehicles, nor whilst

working off-site. The preferred applicant/s will be required to complete a pre-employment questionnaire and the successful

applicant/s will be required to undergo a criminal history check (confirmed by fingerprints and name check) prior to commencement

of employment. An adverse criminal history will not necessarily exclude an applicant from this position. All Department of

Corrections employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
