(Building Operations – Legal Operations)

Building Commission NSW

* Temporary till 30 June 2026 (with possibility of extension or ongoing)
* Clerk 5/6 / $93,295 to $102,941 plus employer's contribution to superannuation
* Location: Parramatta 4PSQ

About the role

This position is in the Disciplinary Action Unit, which is responsible for the disciplinary process in relation to licence holders within the Building Industry. The Disciplinary Action Unit is responsible for making determinations about complex matters of fact and law and the appropriate disciplinary action in relation to licence holders, including whether to:

* Impose monetary penalties up to $220,000,
* Implement drafted licence conditions, for example imposing restrictions or requiring remediation of misconduct or governance failures and ensuring quality improvements; and/or
* Whether to suspend or cancel building licences of both small and large licenced entities in NSW, including building design professionals, builders, trades, supervisors and certifiers

This role will support the unit in ancillary functions related to the management of disciplinary proceedings and disciplinary action under the relevant schemes. It would suit a paralegal, law graduate, or regulatory professional who has an interest in regulation, and who demonstrate strong skills in paralegal duties.

In this role, you will:

* Undertake more complex legal research and other paralegal/administrative type duties;
* Proofread complex legal documents, including Notices to Show Cause and Disciplinary Decisions;
* Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders including investigators, inspectors, mediators and legal officers, as well as external stakeholders, including lawyers, traders and consumers;
* Update and maintain public and other registers, manage and oversee issuance and recovery of fines, issue documents to licence holders and assist business operations through more senior oversight of administrative functions of the unit;
* Lead data reporting and analysis for senior leadership;
* Participate in and manage continuous improvement and other quality assurance activities.

To be successful in this role:

* You will possess legal qualifications, or be close to achieving legal qualifications or have other extensive experience in regulatory decision-making support;
* You must have strong analytical written communication skills;
* You must have superior interpersonal and written communication skills and the ability to express complex issues in a concise and logical manner;
* You will possess high-level problem-solving skills;
* You will possess a high-level of working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 products;
* You will have data analysis and reporting skills and knowledge of, and ability to implement, quality assurance and continuous improvement processes and practices.
