Position Summary

The Supervising GP on Call provides medical oversight to ensure the safety, quality, and continuity of care for patients in the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) and the Acute Ward. The role includes both on‐site supervision during weekends and public holidays and remote support outside of those hours, including overnight on‐call responsibilities.

Role Responsibilities

* Provide clinical oversight and supervision for HMOs and nursing staff in UCC.
* Senior medical decision‐making support to all clinical staff.
* Actively participate in the assessment and treatment of patients.
* Assume responsibility for quality patient care in accordance with the care model of the UCC or Acute Ward, ensuring that clinical procedures are performed in accordance with CAH policy and procedure.
* Review and supervise management plan of patients who have been reviewed by Registrars, HMOs, or Nurses.
* Endorse clinical team's assessments to admit, discharge, or transfer patients.
* Be physically present on weekends and public holidays.
* Be on call remotely outside of these hours (including for the acute ward).
* Respond to call‐outs and attend UCC or the Acute Ward as clinically indicated.
* Provide advice via phone and elevate care appropriately.
* Maintain accurate and timely records of patient care, including completing discharge summaries.
* Complete all necessary documentation related to patient care and supervision in line with hospital protocols and regulations.

Current Rostering Options

* Acute Ward GP – Weekday acute ward onsite 08:00 – 12:00 and on‐call from 12:00 – 17:00.
* Weekends / PH acute ward onsite 08:00 – 12:00 (no on‐call).
* Supervising On‐Call GP – Supervising GP for Hospital (Urgent Care and Acute Ward) on‐call 08:00 – 08:00 (call‐out fees apply). Weekend onsite 12:00 – 20:00 (+ on‐call). All documented hours are subject to change.

* Demonstrated timely response and supervision in both UCC and Acute settings.
* Effective handover and communication with multidisciplinary teams.
* Positive feedback from colleagues, staff, and patients.
* Accurate and contemporaneous documentation of all clinical activities.

* Instigates and actively participates in Quality Improvement Activities.
* Review and ensure a contemporary CAH approach to complaints management.
* Take reasonable care for your own health and safety, and health and safety of others to promote a positive safety culture by contributing to health and safety consultation and communication.
* Promptly respond to and report health and safety hazards, incidents and near misses.

Infection Control

Ensure all practice is conducted in accordance with infection control policies, procedures and standards.

Key Selection Criteria

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes – Essential

* Medical degree and AHPRA registration as a General Practitioner.
* Experience in urgent care or emergency settings.
* Strong clinical decision‐making and problem‐solving skills.
* Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Desirable

* Experience in rural or regional health services.
* Familiarity with CAH systems, workflows and protocols.
* Postgraduate qualifications in Emergency Medicine.
