About the role:
This maternity relief position provides a unique opportunity as a clinical psychologist to work within a multidisciplinary health team based at the John Hunter Children's Hospital. The psychologist would have flexibility in working with clients at different paces – for example, a planned block of therapy appointments as well as responding to acute distress experienced by a child or family during a food exposure challenge. The psychologist works closely with the social worker to respond to the psychosocial challenges experienced by families, and works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary health team. They would have interest in balancing client related tasks with service development tasks, such as leading quality improvement projects.
You would be supported in your role by the multidisciplinary team members of the immunology service, the JHCH psychology head of discipline, individual supervision with another skilled clinical psychologist working within the Children, Young People and Families network, as well as by participating in peer supervision with the JHCH psychologists. You will have access to the ongoing educational and professional development available through various platforms included HETI, grand rounds, professional development allowance, etc.
About you:
You will have experience in providing cognitive behaviour therapy to children, young people and their families to work on exposure to avoided situations, as well as family therapy skills to address familial anxiety that is impacting upon parenting approaches or restrictions of the child's engagement with the community.
