About us:
The Central Queensland Public Health Unit (CQPHU) consists of a multi-disciplinary team of staff including public health physicians, public health nurses, environmental health officers, epidemiologists, data managers, and business services staff, including some with regional wide roles. Public health focuses on the health and wellbeing of populations, rather than of individuals. CQPHU aims to minimise the morbidity and mortality from communicable and vaccine-preventable diseases, and environmental health hazards thereby:

About the role:
This role will be part of the Environmental Health team within Public Health Unit with the enforcement of the Tobacco and Other Smoking Products Act 1998, Medicines and Poisons Act 2019 and related national legislation. The Compliance Officer will be expected to assist with conducting routine compliance inspections, undertake evidence gathering during targeted enforcement and where necessary prepare briefs of evidence and appear in court hearings.
Ability to interpret legislation, regulations and other guideline material relating to the operations and functions of the Public Health Unit.
Take appropriate enforcement action against persons found to be contravening public health legislation, including the routine compliance inspections, and serving of statutory notices and fixed penalty notices where appropriate. This will also include gathering evidence, writing reports and attending court.
Undertake joint investigation and enforcement action with partners, such as Public Health Unit Environmental Health Officers, Queensland Police Service, agencies of the Illicit Tobacco Task Force and Therapeutic Goods Administration.
About you:
Ability to interpret legislation, regulations and other guidance material relating to the operations and functions of CQPHU. Working knowledge of smoking product supply issues and legislation will be highly regarded.
The position holder will be required to have or be willing to complete a Certificate IV in Government Investigations.
The position holder will be required to complete training and meet competencies required of Authorised Officers under public health legislation.
What we offer:
Total remuneration value of up to $129,507 p.a. is comprised of:
An hourly rate between $53.72 - $57.24 p.h.
