About The Role
This newly created position is part of a two-year pilot program designed to demonstrate the benefits of incorporating exercise physiology into the care of children and young people undergoing oncology treatment, as well as during their recovery in the months that follow. The role will involve conducting assessments and delivering interventions across a variety of settings, including inpatient wards, the paediatric oncology day unit, community environments such as family homes, and via telehealth.
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team - particularly Paediatric Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, medical staff, and nursing staff within the Oncology Service. As part of the HNEKids Allied Health service, you will provide assessments, interventions, and care plans for patients of the John Hunter Children’s Hospital Oncology Service.
About You
You are a motivated clinician with the initiative to drive this two-year pilot project, combining direct intervention with research and data analysis to evaluate the impact of an Exercise Physiologist within Paediatric Oncology. You bring strong communication and adaptability, enabling you to engage effectively with children and young people at varying stages of treatment and distress, while also working collaboratively with families to establish meaningful and achievable goals.
Requirements
MUST hold a bachelor degree in exercise and sports science, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.

To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a Current Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia.
