About us

At Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service, our Central Queensland Public Health Unit (CQPHU) leads essential preventative health work across Central Queensland and the Central West. Our team brings together Public Health Physicians, Nurses, Environmental Health Officers, Epidemiologists, Data specialists and business services staff - all working together to protect and strengthen the health of our communities.

About the role

* Work directly with communities across Central Queensland and the Central West to strengthen the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* Plan, coordinate and deliver culturally informed public health programs that support communicable disease prevention in both urban and rural communities.
* Promote and enhance vaccination initiatives in partnership with local communities.
* Contribute to communicable disease response activities and broader public health protection priorities.
* Build strong relationships with community partners and stakeholders to support genuine collaboration and local engagement.
* Collaborate with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Wellbeing Directorate to share trusted health information and support healthier futures.
* Use your understanding of social determinants of health to strengthen community capacity and support local health promoting practices.

About you

* Tertiary studies or a Certificate/Diploma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care is beneficial, though not mandatory.
* Experience in public health programs such as immunisation and health promotion, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, is highly regarded.
* Ability to apply primary health care and health promotion principles confidently in community settings.
* Strong understanding or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of communicable disease issues, contributing factors, and effective prevention strategies.
* Ability to support public health priorities with a focus on communicable disease prevention and immunisation.
* Strong interpersonal, consultation, negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
* Ability to collect, interpret and use data to support evidence-based public health interventions.

What we offer

Total remuneration value of up to $9,800 p.m. is comprised of:

* An hourly rate between $47.18 - $51.98 p.h.
* 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
* 17.5% leave loading

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements

It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against vaccine preventable diseases as listed on the Role Description.
