About The Role
The Postgraduate Fellow in the Emergency Department is responsible for the provision and documentation of secure, effective and appropriate patient‑centered medical care in a team‑based environment. This position requires participation on a 7‑day a week/24‑hour roster, with the ability to work in charge of the department on night shift. Duties include:
- Senior Medical Officer in charge of the department, including night shift.
- Admitting Officer.
- Coordinate and oversee deployment of resources within the department in conjunction with the nurse‑in‑charge to ensure that patients are seen within a timely manner.
- Notify the on‑call ED consultant of staffing problems during the shift; additional staff may be called in only with authorization from the ED consultant.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers and members of the multi‑disciplinary team.
About You
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority.
- Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine or a suitable overseas specialist qualification in Emergency Medicine, or final year of training towards fellowship.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high‑quality compassionate medical care.
- Experience in or knowledge of programs for improving the organisation and delivery of care in Emergency Medicine.
