Primary objective

Provide technical service and advice in support of all aquaculture programs at the Darwin Aquaculture Centre. This includes

system maintenance, construction, and production of a wide range of tropical aquaculture species including microalgae, live

feeds, bivalves, and finfish.

Context statement

The Darwin Aquaculture Centre (DAC) is located on Channel Island, 45kms from Darwin and 25kms from Palmerston. There

is no public transport beyond Palmerston, so having your own transport is essential. This position is required to deliver a

high level of technical support whilst working harmoniously in a team environment. Technicians may be required to work

weekends, public holidays and irregular hours.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Assist in the maintenance of broodstock at the DAC.

2. Prepare for and undertake the production of larval and juvenile phases of aquaculture species.

3. Contribute to the planning, design, implementation, maintenance, and analysis of research projects.

4. Assist in the design, manufacture and maintenance of aquaculture systems.

5. Collect and enter production and research data onto a database and contribute to internal reports.

6. Provide administrative and operational assistance as directed, including participation in an on-call roster.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. A qualification in aquaculture, or relevant experience.

2. Practical experience in commercial aquaculture production or technical aspects of aquaculture research.

1. Knowledge of tropical finfish, mollusc and/or crustacean aquaculture.
2. Ability to work efficiently with minimal or no supervision and work within a team to achieve its goals whilst maintaining

a consistently high work standard.

5. Technically competent in all areas identified in key responsibilities.

6. Current NT Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable time frame.

Desirable

1. Current First Aid Certificate.

2. Experience in the production of live feeds and/or microalgae.

3. Experience in tropical aquaculture species culture
