Austral Fisheries Pty Ltd (Austral) is one of Australia's leading integrated commercial fishing companies, with vessels operating in Australia's sub-Antarctic Territories, The Northern Prawn Fishery and the Timor Reef Fishery. Whilst we operate from the Sub-Antarctic to the tropics, we are headquartered in Perth, Western Australia and have been in operation for over 50 years.
Austral have an exciting, yet challenging, opportunity for Deckhands and Fishing Hands to join our team on a full-time basis in Queensland.
As Deckhand, you will be required to:
· Comply with Company Drug and Alcohol Testing;
· Handle ropes and wires, and operate mooring equipment when berthing and unberthing;
· Conduct standing lookout watches at sea and adjusting the ship's course as directed;
· Assist with operations using on-board equipment and stowing and securing product;
· Patrol the vessel to ensure safety of the vessel and crew;
· Perform routine maintenance checks on the deck equipment, rigging, and lifesaving and fire-fighting appliances;
· Bait and haul traps, and removing fish and other marine life;
· Sort, clean, process, preserve and package catches
Physical Requirements
* Ability to lift 30kg
* Work up to a 12 Hour Shift, requirement to work overtime and weekends due to operational requirements.
* Ability to ascent and decent stairs or ladders whist transporting tools and objects
* Ability to work in rough conditions
* Physically fit and healthy
Successful candidates will:
· Have at least 2 years recent experience in fishing vessels/seafaring;
· Current First Aid Certificate;
· Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
· Hold a certificate in vessel Safety Training (ideally, STCW95 and or equivalent) consisting of:
o Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
o Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR)
o Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF)
o Security Awareness Training (SAT)
o Elementary First Aid (EFA)- obtained within the last 12 months
Salary
If successful, you will be paid a salary ranging between $65,000 to $75,000 per annum.
