Job description
Austop Fisheries is looking for experienced general fish hands to join our team operating out of Darwin. Role includes both sea time and shore-based duties.
Specific responsibilities of the position include:
* Handling ropes and wires, and operating mooring equipment
* Standing lookout at sea and adjusting the vessel's course as directed
* Assisting with other aspects of vessel's operations
* Performing ongoing maintenance and checks on all equipment
* Casting and lowering nets, pots, lines, and traps into water
* Hauling in fishing gear and removing fish and other marine life
* Sorting, cleaning, preserving, stowing, and refrigerating catch
* Fish filleting and processing
* Ensuring all aspects of the fishing vessel's operations are always conducted safely
Key attributes and skills required for the position:
* Good level of physical fitness
* Demonstrated ongoing commitment to work health and safety and duties of care
* Sufficient English language skills to be able to perform all responsibilities efficiently and safely
* Minimum 3 years of verifiable experience working as a fish hand on a vessel
