About the role
The Senior Assurance Officer, Schools plans, leads and manages school assurance reviews to enhance the effectiveness of governance, risk management and internal control processes.
You will be responsible for delivering assurance reviews, identifying root causes and contributing to system wide improvements, while remaining flexible to changing business requirements and competing priorities.
The role ensures strict confidentiality and probity in the conduct of compliance reviews, particularly where significant deficiencies may be identified, and maintains the integrity of review processes and the accuracy of all data collected. This role also involves supervising, coaching and mentoring staff and working collaboratively within teams.

About you
* Experienced in planning, leading, and managing assurance or compliance reviews, ideally in schools or the public sector.
* Strong understanding of governance, risk management, and internal controls, with the ability to identify deficiencies, root causes and recommend improvements.
* Advanced Excel skills, with demonstrated experience analysing large volumes of data, using audit software, and preparing clear, well-structured reports.
* Strong communication (verbal and written) and organisation skills, with the ability to deliver high quality advice, and engaging with stakeholders, including Principals and all level of management.
* Committed to maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and probity, including handling suspected misconduct.
* Able to work collaboratively, mentor staff, support continuous improvement, and effectively manage competing priorities .
* Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
* Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, such as Public Administration, Accounting, Management, Education or a related field and/or equivalent workplace experience.
* Current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance for paid employment
* Currently driver's license, and willingness and the ability to travel extensively
* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education
