About the opportunity

Based in Darwin, NT, Altrad are seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to support our Darwin Yard and project operations, playing a key role in delivering and maintaining high standards across safety, health, and environmental performance.

Reporting to the HSEQ leadership team, you will be responsible for administering and supporting site-based HSE programs, conducting regular site visits, coaching teams, and ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, company policies, and client expectations.

This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with site teams, supervisors, and stakeholders to drive a proactive safety culture, support continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure HSEQ systems are effectively implemented across yard and project environments.

In this role, you will:

* Attend site prestart and coach teams on Altrad’s prestart methodology and safety expectations.

* Develop and implement monthly site visit plans across Darwin Yard and project locations.

* Conduct routine inspections, monitoring, and analysis of work areas, including a minimum of three Loss Prevention Inspections (LPIs) per week.

* Coach and mentor site leadership teams to complete HSEQ inspections and safety activities effectively.

* Support and deliver training across systems such as AMS, AIR, and ChemAlert.

* Maintain ChemAlert registers, SDS documentation, and site manifests to ensure compliance.

* Prepare and maintain accurate HSE reports, documentation, and safety records.

* Investigate incidents and near misses, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions.

* Monitor AIR system activities and guide site teams in managing incidents, actions, and assurance tasks.

* Identify safety risks, analyse trends, and recommend practical improvements to site management.

* Build strong working relationships with internal teams, clients, and regulatory bodies to support a positive safety culture.

About you

You’re a proactive and safety-driven professional who enjoys being on the ground, engaging with teams, and driving meaningful improvements in HSE performance across diverse work environments.

* Cert IV in Work Health & Safety, HSEQ, Risk Management or related discipline (Diploma preferred).

* Minimum 3+ years’ experience in a HSE Advisor role, ideally within construction, maintenance, or industrial environments.

* Strong working knowledge of Australian HSE legislation, standards, and industry best practices.

* Proven experience conducting inspections, audits, and incident investigations, with exposure to ICAM, TapRooT, or similar methodologies.

* Experience in environmental and hygiene monitoring is highly regarded.

* Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence and coach site teams and supervisors.

* Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships across a multi-cultural workforce.

* Experience using safety systems such as ChemAlert and incident management platforms like AIR.

* Highly organised with strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
