Overview
As a Garden Maintenance Team Member, your role involves maintaining and enhancing gardens and outdoor spaces on sites located around Melbourne's West/West South/West Northern suburbs. Strong communication skills and the ability to follow directions from your Team Leader are essential. This hands‑on position is ideal for those passionate about gardening and landscaping with a dedication to outdoor work.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Mow, edge, and trim lawns to maintain a neat and professional appearance.
- Prune, weed, mulch, and fertilise gardens, flower beds, trees, and shrubs.
- Plant and maintain flowers, grass, shrubs, and trees as required.
- Apply herbicides, pesticides, and fertilisers safely and effectively.
- Maintain and repair irrigation systems to ensure proper watering.
- Collect and remove litter from outdoor areas, pathways, and communal spaces.
- Empty outdoor rubbish bins and replace garbage bags.
- Sort and dispose of waste appropriately, including general, green, and recyclable waste.
- Clear fallen leaves, branches, and other natural debris from grounds.
- Dispose of bulk waste from landscaping projects and seasonal cleanups.
- Sweep, pressure wash, and keep walkways, driveways, and outdoor seating areas clean.
- Maintain fences, pathways, garden beds, and outdoor fixtures.
- Perform minor repairs on garden tools, lawnmowers, and groundskeeping equipment.
- Identify and report any hazards, damages, or maintenance issues.
- Follow workplace safety guidelines, including correct use of chemicals and machinery.
- Ensure all work areas are free from hazards and maintain a safe setting.
- Adhere to environmental and sustainability practices in grounds management.
- Assist with special landscaping projects or event set‑up if needed.
- Work collaboratively with other staff to ensure outdoor spaces remain well‑maintained.
What you'll need
- Previous experience in landscaping, gardening, or a related field (advantage; training available).
- Strong work ethic and commitment to completing tasks efficiently and to the highest standards.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- National Police Check (mandatory).
- White Card (advantage).
- Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain.
- Experience with power tools (advantage).
- Fluent in English.
